Ovens

Noisy Oven

Q: Oven makes a noise when heating up or cooling down

Incorrect Cooking (Gas Models)

A: a) Is food being cooked at the correct temperature.  See users handbook for correct gas mark to centigrade conversion, this may differ from recipe books

Back to top of pageIncorrect Cooking (Gas Models)

Q: Food is burning/not cooking (Electric Models)

A: Electric fan ovens should have a very close temperature range (+/- 15 degC  from the temperature set) on all shelves in the oven.  Assuming the appliance is level, temperatures outside these limits should be referred to a qualified service agent.

Smoke From Grill

Q: Every time the grill is used I get a lot of smoke

A: Grill temperature is too high or the food is too close to the grill burner/element, causing spitting and soiling of the grill element.

Cooker Working After Oven Switched Off

Q: After switching off the oven I can still hear the cooker working

A: This is quite normal as there may be a cooling fan fitted, (Kenwood ceramic models) which will run for several minutes to ensure the controls are kept cool

Strong Smell From New Oven

Q: Oven has a strong acrid smell when used for the fist few times

A: This is quite normal on new appliances. The appliance should be set to maximum temperature for 1-2 hours, to allow for any oil or grease that may be on the elements to burn off. If the smell persist then the customer should contact a qualified service agent.

Large Flame From Burners

Q: The flame on the burners is too fierce (gas models only)

A: All gas models are factory set for natural gas. If the appliance is used on LPG (bottled gas) the flame will be incorrect and will need to be converted for LPG using the LPG conversion kit supplied with the cooker. This work must be carried out be a qualified CORGI registered service agent.

Marks On Ceramic Hob

Q: There are marks appearing on the ceramic hob

A: This may be due to copper based pans transferring a small amount of copper to the ceramic surface, this can be removed using a proprietary ceramic hob cleaner.  If the surface is becoming scratched, this may be due to incorrect pans or the pans being pulled across the ceramic surface.  (see users instruction book)

Back to top of pageCracks in the ceramic hob

Q: There are cracks appearing in the ceramic hob

A: Cracks may be caused be incorrect pans, pans or utensils being dropped or the hob left on with no pan in use. Cracks radiating out from the centre usually indicate something has been dropped. Cracks across the elements usually indicate a faulty element or the element has been used without a pan.

A: Note: The hob should not be used until a repair has been made.
